Dr. Tomas Willems is the National Technical Coordinator for the REBYC-III CLME+ and EAF4SG Projects in Suriname.

Dr. Willems is fisheries scientist based in Suriname. For the last eight years, he has been working as an independent consultant for various organisations, including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Conservation International (CI) and the Centre for Development and Sustainable Fisheries (CeDePesca).

Through various projects, he has been providing technical support to the Suriname Government on fishing gear and bycatch reduction, fisheries data collection and data analysis, stock assessment and sustainable fisheries management in general.

He has a PhD. in Marine Sciences and a Master’s in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation, both from the University of Ghent in Belgium. He is currently the National Technical Coordinator for the EAF4SG and REBYC-III CLME+ projects in Suriname.
